Foals

How to register your foal in the Selle Français Stud-book ?

Breeders have 3 possibilities for registering their foals in the Selle Français Stud-Book

Selle français registration based on lineage right

This means that through a genetic crossing, the foal becomes Selle Français at birth if it is from one of these crossbreedings:

  •  A licensed SF stallion and an SF mare
  •  Or: a licensed SF stallion and an “SF factor” foreign mare
  • Or: an SF licensed stallion from another breed and a SF-certified foreign mare
  • Or : an SF licensed stallion from another breed and a factor of SF mare (AA, Thoroughbred, AQPS, DSAA French Trotter)

Registration is done when the foal’s birth is declared on the internet or on the IFCE form.

Retroactive SF registration

A foal which couldn’t be registered in the SF Stud-Book at birth can still be RETROACTIVELY (i.e. later) registered if it is not yet registered in any other stud-book and if:

  • its sire was not SF licensed at the time of the foal’s birth, but is now licensed
  • its dam was not SF-certified at the time of the foal’s birth, but is now certified

The application must be sent to the SF Stud-Book.

Initial SF registration

A foal that couldn’t be registered at birth can still benefit from an INITIAL REGISTRATION if it is not yet registered in any other Stud-Book and if it fills one of those 3 conditions:

  • Both its dam and sire are “SF factor”;
  • Its sire has high-level performances (mostly international ones) has been positively assessed by the Selle Français Stud-Book experts ;
  • the horse itself has obtained an average grade of 15/20 or more in 2 or 3 year old's breeding competition
  • the horse itself has a minimum performance index of 110 (from 4 years old)

Neither of the parents can be of non-certified origin. The application must be sent to the Stud-Book.
